Written Mar 12, 2020:
Wow, I can’t believe it’s been three months already. Really our time in Africa has flown by so fast. I’m gonna miss you Africa. 🇲🇼🇿🇼
This team really has become a family, and the people we’ve met here have been such a blessing to us and have become our friends.
I will never forget these three months of outreach, it has seriously shaped my view of God and people and on life itself.
Thank you for everything.
Embellishments after the fact – Mar 26, 2020:
I never really did a week eleven update post on Facebook so I’m going to write one here.
Week eleven was surreal. Monday was our only day of ministry and it turned out to be pretty chill too. We went back to our home church and helped organize files for the clinic, which we completed very fast. Then Daphne realized that even though school was technically out that day, the kids still showed up because they didn’t want to stay at home and they wanted to learn so she got to teach them about hearing God’s voice! We played some games with them then moved to the sanctuary where we ate lunch and then prayed for and interceded for Zimbabwe and the continuation of the ministries we participated in.

And just like that we were done. No more ministry. It was over. Tuesday was our debriefing day and we had to make a list of our top ten memories, one from each week, that we had to prepare before Tuesday. None of us actually stuck to just ten but we kept it short. We had chocolate cake and tea and talked about our favorite and personally most touching moments of outreach. We played games as a team as well as some team time and had fun listening to music and just playing.

Wednesday was a rest day and we took full advantage of that. I don’t think anyone did anything all day except maybe laundry lol.
Then all of a sudden the day was upon us. The day we would leave Africa and go back to Australia. we spent the morning packing our bags, deciding what to leave behind, and taking pictures with people, and of course cleaning our space. At two we were off to the airport and everyone was waiting there for us outside! We were so glad we could see everyone one last time. We all talked and prayed together, encouraged each other, and took a bunch of pictures to remember each other and the time we had together. We were able to talk to them one on one and in depth too because the counter for us to check in was closed for so we had to wait. We got really good at waiting over the three months in Africa, but we learned to use our time well. Soon it was time and we took our bags through the gate, waving the whole way back and forth at each other.

It wasn’t as dramatic as I thought it would be. We just kind of walked away and I just didn’t know what to think. It was sad but I honestly felt like it was time and we were ready to go. I felt like I had good closure of my time in Africa.

We flew from Harare to Dubai, wearing our masks as ordered by our YWAM superiors for safety. We checked into a hotel in Dubai for a day because our layover was so long, and we were so blessed even with that. We got to book the hotel free through our airline, and they provided free breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We got to rest, take showers, and sleep well and soon were ready to go back to the airport for the final flight to Perth.

We made it to Perth on Saturday and the other outreach team was already and greeted us warmly. It was so nice to see them again! We were all excited to see each other and it felt so great to catch up with the other team, especially in lieu of COVID 19 spreading while we were apart.
I’ll make a separate post about report back week but that’s all for now!
Until next time, hugs from the US thinking about Zimbabwe 🇿🇼
