Outreach: Week 2

Written Jan 14, 2020:

Hey guys, just another update, I’m borrowing someone’s hotspot so I can post so I might not be able to post pictures and video, but I will try. (This is from the original post I made on Facebook, I am able to upload the pictures now after the fact so I will include them in this article)

Malawi countryside
That’s not fog. We were so high in the mountains we drove through the clouds

This week was our first full week in Dzaleka, Malawi (I spelled it wrong in my last post). We’re staying in a plot in a refugee camp and it’s so beautiful here. We are eating so well, we are blessed to have a host family who can really cook so the food is always delicious! It rains here almost every day, and when it rains it pours, making the ground muddy and streams of muddy water wind through the roads which is actually really beautiful.

Our YWAM base. They had just started this base 3 months before!

The people are all so welcoming as well. They all look really tough, but as soon as you give them a smile their face lights up in return. We were even able to go into people’s homes to share the gospel with them which was such a humbling but also empowering experience. We’ve seen healings this week, we’ve seen salvations this week, and we’ve even been able to give families bibles as well.

For me personally, God has been speaking to me a lot about joy. Since I was little joy has been spoken over my life but I’ve struggled with depression for just as long. God spoke to me through another DTS student here that I don’t have to feel guilty to be happy and that God has so much to show and give me, if I’ll only look to Him for everything. So that’s what I’ve been trying to do. Every day I ask Him to fill me with joy and every day he gives me more and more.

As for day to day, Monday we did farming ministry. We went to recently bought land to farm for food to give to widows and disabled people. We prayed over the land and we helped pick the weeds. Towards the end we found big snails and were letting them crawl on our hands.

This was one of the big market areas. On Tuesday’s it was packed!

Tuesday was our first full day of ministry here. We started with the usual breakfast, devotion and intercession, then we went out for door to door. I was so nervous to talk to strangers but our team leaders were great examples and God spoke to me for the people as well!

Wednesday we did door to door as well where I got to see someone get saved for the first time. And then in the afternoon we split in two teams for widow ministry and children’s ministry at church. I went to children’s ministry and the kids were so great. Not to mention adorable!

These kids loved to dance and sing for God!
So many kids

Thursday morning devotion was so good and I had a revelation about how God sees me as His daughter and wants to get close to me again like a father and daughter. That day we also did more kids ministry and I got to lead the whole congregation in a dance game! We had teaching and worship as well and all the kids enthusiastically gave their hearts to Jesus. They were so great, it had been that long since I had been that full of joy.

Friday I had the opportunity to share my recent testimony about God bringing joy back into my life in the church. I thought I would be nervous but I think God was bringing me peace and confidence.

We also went to the markets a few times this week to buy bananas and mangos, and we got to try this local bread that’s sweet dough in a ball and fried in oil and oh my gosh is it delicious.

Bananas were everywhere and I could not be happier
This is what a lot of the alleys and even the streets look like with canals that the muddy water runs through when it rains
This is one edge if the camp where across the way, YWAM Dzaleka bought land to make a permanent base in Malawi!

Saturday was our rest day and Sunday I had the opportunity to preach a message in the church which God gave me strength for and I was told it was good.

Monday turned into a rest day as both of our staff were sick but we went back out for ministry Tuesday morning helping a family rebuild their house that had collapsed and doing disabled ministry!!

We got to help Pascal, a member of our church, rebuild his house that collapsed!

I hope you enjoyed this update! We’re doing great here, this next week will be our last one in Dzaleka and we’ll be going to a base on Lake Malawi next!

Thank you all so much for your prayers of support, I’m sure that God has many angels protecting our group because of you guys 🙂 until next time, hugs from Dzaleka!
